The move to Rocky Hill Road has begun, at long last. We closed on the house and land yesterday, and I took a load of things from our rental house over to the new place today.
But before that, after closing, I moved a load of used pine siding into the big barn. A friend was cleaning out his garage, getting ready for a move to Japan for a year, and he had more than 40 boards of used interior pine siding. So I said we could take it off his hands. Good for him, good for us.
We have plans — vague now — for the renovations and eventual additions to the farmhouse on Rocky Hill Road, and those plans include buying as little “new stuff” as we can. The desire to “up-cycle” materials in sound and aesthetically pleasing ways lead us to the site reclaimed space. Some of the portable buildings are too rustic for my taste, but both Paula and I love the innovative and creative use of used materials for the construction of the “portable homes.”
Check out some behind-the-scenes pics of how they build their spaces.
