Austin Kleon’s little black book, “Steal Like An Artist,” hit the New York Times bestsellers list a few months ago. The book was based on a talk he gave, and his notes online went viral. I bought the book months ago — it’s a great, clear, funny, instructive read — and I share his advice with my students.
In this talk — “The Artist Who Changed My Life” — he takes us through his process of creating poetry from old NY Times newspapers, to the point where he is on a book tour and he serendipitously meets the artist who changed his life when Austin was 13.
The video/post is here on Austin’s blog: The artist who changed my life. Worth the less-than-half-hour viewing time. Inspiring, and it just might give you license to borrow as much as you want from the artists you love.
