Paula and I are moving in this high-90s and 100-degree-plus heat, packing and labeling boxes, loading furniture into the bed of two pick-up trucks. In the morning, we work in the A/C, and in the blasting afternoon we move items into the new house and garage.
When you move, you have to be willing to get help from others: my parents, our friends Jim, Hank, Chris, Deb. Almost everyone just wants to jump in and move things, so we keep making boxes, and moving, and starting over the next morning. It’s exhausting work, but this particular move has been quite smooth, perhaps the smoothest transition in housing we have made in years.
What does this have to do with Arielle Sandler’s 100 Paintings in 100 Days? Not much, other than what Ms. Sandler is doing is interesting, and fun, and entrepreneurial, and at the end of a long day it’s refreshing to get an email with the next installment of her series. Like a gift.
And it makes me think about the eventual studio space at Rocky Hill Road: where will the first temporary studio space be? The second, tiny, low-ceilinged bedroom in the house will be the computer/graphic design room, to begin with, and half of the living room will be our bedroom while we work on renovating the larger “second bedroom” over the next few months. Half of the two-car garage could be a studio space this winter, if we construct a wall and get a heat source and some water to the garage. Hmm.
Long-term, there’s a perfect spot by the ravine, near the barn, for a small studio.
Ideas, projections… The move to Rocky Hill Road is going exhaustingly well, filled with speculation and excitement about future projects. And it’s also great to have friends, like John and Melissa, who show up with a wonderful dinner from Bloomingfoods at the end of another hot day.
