Yesterday Paula and I put old metal barn roofing on the exposed rafters in the “dining room” of the farmhouse. This is, you will see, the same kind of roofing we have used on the chicken coop/shelters.
We acquired the red-painted tin from an old high school friend, who had taken down a small barn last year. It’s weathered, has some rusted blotches, has nail holes. In short, it has patina.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll insulate the ceiling and tack down plywood above the rafters to create a firm “floor” in the attic. This will allow us to work up there throughout the cooling fall and into the colder winter, framing out the new raised ceiling that will follow the angle of the pyramid roof, and installing a few skylights.
Hopefully, the work will be done by mid-December. Fingers crossed.
